My experience of ‘The Care Show Swindon’

Last month I talked about my anticipation to be a keynote speaker at The Care Show Swindon. Well! The day arrived and I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences of being a representative of Shreeve Care Services at this new event.

This was the first ever care show in Swindon at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Wednesday 2nd April. There were lots of stands at the event offering a range of businesses and charities. There were financial planners (e.g. Southby & Co), care providers (e.g. Bespoke Guardians), charities (e.g. Best Mates), and wills and estate providers (e.g. Reshma Fields). It was great to be amongst this collection of organisations that are putting the care industry at the forefront of their minds and businesses.

Swindon’s Mayor, Cllr Imtiyaz Shaikh, opened the event at 9:30am for the organisations who established the stands for the day. We had allocated time in the morning to network with these charities and neighbouring businesses. It fostered collaboration and you could really feel that in the room.

Then it came time to present my keynote speech, where I got to speak about my background and how I can help people. Ultimately, what Shreeve Care Services can do! I spoke about the challenges when a person is discharged from hospital and how Shreeve Care Services can assist quickly to make sure they get the best possible care and the different options available to people (domiciliary care, care home, or live in care). I then discussed what to look for in a care provider and the power of making your own choice as well as the attendance allowance, CHC assessments, and the importance of ‘power of attorney’.

In the afternoon, The Care Show Swindon opened to the public. I made a load of connections and got to speak to a multitude of people who were interested in what Shreeve Care Services had to offer. From this, some of those connections will be booking calls with me, making it an extremely fruitful event.

We ended the day with the RWB Dementia Choir singing songs showing how music can help people with dementia. It was moving and inspiring to see these amazing individuals. As always reminding me of the people we do this for and that they should be the centre of all care provider’s offers. The songs they say were very nostalgic, like ‘Daisy Daisy’ and used props (ribbons) and instruments to aid their performance. It was a lovely afternoon.

The event was organised by Laura Parsons, from SLP Unity, and I would like to thank her for bringing this much needed event to Swindon and hopefully it continues for years to come.

To have an event like The Care Show Swindon feeds my passion to highlight the need for information around options and care routes. People should have the knowledge to plan for their care and create a solution that supports them and their family.

The next show will be on September 18th 2025 and I cannot wait!
